I was born in 1971 in Afşin/Kahramanmaraş. I graduated from the German High School in Istanbul (1990) and medical studies at Istanbul University (1996). After completing my residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Erzurum Atatürk University and Istanbul Zeynep Kamil Training Research Hospital (2002), I started working as a gynecologist at Istanbul Bakırköy Maternity Hospital (2002-2011).

In 2004, I started working in the Perinatology Clinic of Bakırköy Maternity Hospital and qualified as a specialist in perinatology in 2010. After the hospital moved and named Istanbul Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Training and Research Hospital in 2011, I passed the Associate Professor exam in 2012 and the Ministry of Health exam in 2013 and received the title of Clinical Training Chief. Until 2020, I held various administrative positions including Head of Obstetrics Clinic (2014-2015), Head of Perinatology Clinic (2017-2018), and Chief Physician (2015-2017) at Istanbul Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Training and Research Hospital.

During my specialization I participated in various studies and researches abroad:
In 2004 at Vivantes Hospital in Berlin, Germany, for fetal echocardiography studies, in 2009 at Boston Childrens’ Hospital, Harvard University, Boston, USA for intrauterine fetal cardiac interventions in the womb, between 2013 and 2017 at the University of Giessen, Germany, the University of Zurich, Switzerland and the University of Katowice, Poland for intrauterine fetal spina bifida surgeries.

During my educational and administrative responsibilities, I contributed to the training of dozens of gynecologists and perinatologists and provided clinical supervision and dissertation guidance to 18 young colleagues.

In 2020, after leaving the public sector and starting my work at Istanbul Aydın University, I was awarded the title of professor in the same year.

My specialties are fetal ultrasound (detailed ultrasound screening), fetal echocardiography (detailed heart screening of the baby in the womb), monitoring of high-risk pregnancies, invasive procedures (diagnostic procedures on the uterus during pregnancy), fetal medical and surgical treatments (medical and surgical applications for problematic babies in the womb).

I have 2 children named İrem Bilge and Yunus Alp with my wife Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asuman Gedikbaşı.

• He was invited to work on the topic of “Fetal Echocardiography and Doppler” at the Vivantes Netzwerk GmBH Hospital in Berlin (2004).
• He worked as an observer in “intrauterine fetal cardiac interventions” at Harvard Medical School Boston Children's Hospital Pediatric Cardiology Unit (2009).
• He worked with Prof. Dr. Thomas Kohl at the “Deutsches Zentrum für Fetalchirurgie und minimal invasive Therapie” ( German Centre for Fetal Surgery and Minimally Invasive Therapy at the University of Giessen, Germany (with interruptions between 2013 and 2016).
• Collaborative study on open intrauterine fetal surgery in pregnancies with spina bifida led by Prof. Dr. Martin Meuli with the clinics of the Department of Pediatric Surgery and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the University of Zurich, Switzerland (2015 – 2016).
• Collaboration in the project of the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Department of Paediatric Surgery (Prof. Dr. Anita Olejek and Prof. Dr. Janusz Bohosiewics) at the University of Katowice, Poland, on intrauterine repair of spina bifida cases by open surgery (2017).
